The symposium “Acequias and the Future of Resilience in Global Perspective,” will take place on March 2nd & 3rd, 2013, and will be held at the Las Cruces Convention Center in Las Cruces, NM. It will feature a day and a half of local and invited panelists discussing their research on New Mexico acequias as well as community irrigation systems in Spain, Morocco, Mexico, Chile, Peru, and Bali.
The workshop will take place on the second afternoon and aims to bring together acequia community leaders and scholars to discuss what an agenda for future collaborative research and policy development should look like.
The symposium/workshop is sponsored by an NSF-funded multi-disciplinary and mult-institutional (NMSU, UNM, Sandia, NMAA) research project that combines natural and physical science with social science approaches to the investigation of acequias as social-ecological systems.
A preliminary program for the symposium/workshop is now available.
