The proceedings of the 14th annual Congreso de las Acequias are now available.
Braving the storm, over 125 acequieros came out to support the work of the New Mexico Acequia Association on Saturday, November 23rd for its annual Congreso de las Acequias. It's the largest gathering of acequia members and supporters in New Mexico. People were joined together from around the state to rally in support of our work to protect our precious water, inspire people to grow food, and to celebrate our cultural heritage. It's a gather to share knowledge, meet old and new friends, and to leave with a renewed committment to keep our acequias flowing with agua sana y agua pura.
During this year's event, we emphasized the importance of strengthening community and water sharing traditions during times of water scarcity; and worked to build momentum for legislative priorities at the state and federal levels. We had a great line up of speakers including Congressman Ben Ray Luan as the keynote.
