All acequias who have completed an ICIP or otherwise identified infrastructure improvement needs please, contact NMAA immediately for assistance completing the RCPP application for funding and technical assistance.
Applications are being accepted for the New Mexico Acequia Rehabilitation 2016 RCPP through September 30, 2016.
New Mexico Association of Conservation Districts (NMACD) in cooperation with Interstate Stream Commission (ISC), New Mexico Association of Acequias (NMAA), Taos Soil and Water Conservation District, Tierra Y Montes Conservation District, East Rio Arriba Conservation District, Upper Chama Conservation District, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) are moving forward in offering acequias an opportunity for financial and technical assistance beginning in August of 2016.
The partners with NMACD as the lead will make available the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) through an application process. RCPP was authorized through the Farm Bill to promote coordination between NRCS and partners to deliver conservation assistance to agricultural producers and landowners.
NOTE:Some acequias may need by-laws, engineering designs or a comprehensive plan to develop an assistance path for the future. The partners will play a major role in assessing the best path.
