This show features a reading of the Seed Sovereignty Declaration that was signed by over 100 participants in the 1st Annual Tierra, Agua, y Cultura conference on March 11, 2006 (see radio shows ¡Que Vivan! #06 <click here> and ¡Que Vivan! #7 <click here>) that was organized by the NM Food and Seed Sovereignty Alliance which is composed of the NMAA and the Traditional Native American Farmers’ Association.  The show also features a dialogue on native seeds and the potential threat of genetic engineering that was held at the 9th Annual Congreso de las Acequias on December 5, 2008.  This dialogue features members of the Food & Seed Sovereignty Alliance and other conference participants to talk about concern for the passing of Senate Bill 60 in the 2008 New Mexico State Legislature, a Bill that provides funding to New Mexico State University for research into the mechanization and genetic engineering of chile.

Special thanks to Cipriano Vigil for our theme music and Xavier Quijas Yxayotl for this month’s musical selection.
