Enter your photograph and you could win a $200 prize and your photo will be featured in a 2013 acequia calendar!

In light of the New Mexico Centennial, we are asking for unique photos that capture New Mexico’s history as it relates to acequias and acequia agriculture.

Acequias Past. This includes ancient engineering features and characteristics of the past – old structures like a wooden canova (flume) for example; old tools; or machinery, illustrating the acequia landscape from a historical perspective.

Acequias Present. Photos in this category can include the more contemporary features of acequias and the acequia landscape including greenhouses, or new construction projects. Just all around great shots of your field, acequia, animals, etc.

Acequias Future. Be creative with this category. It’s meant to be a chance to provide an optimistic view of New Mexico acequias in the future. For example, a photo of youth planting the fields would represent the future of acequias.

Youth Category. This year, we created a category specifically for photos submitted by youth (up to age 20). We encourage our youth to submit acequia photos following the past, present, and future themes.

Submissions must be sent electronically, in high resolution jpeg format. Please email photos to quita@lasacequias.org along with the following information:

• Name of photographer (and age if youth participant).
• Acequia Name
• Region (if applicable)
• Town
• County
• Photo Description

Participants are limited to one photo per category.

Terms and conditions: Upon photo submission, you agree to the use of your photo(s) in NMAA materials including but not limited to publications, calendar, website pages, and outreach materials. Photo credit will be given where appropriate.
