Below is a statement made by NMAA's Concilio (Board of Directors) in response to a recent blog attack on the organization's Executive Director.
The New Mexico Acequia Association is a 25 year old organization comprised of leadership from acequias throughout New Mexico. We are a highly regarded organization that has successfully advocated for the interests of acequias for decades. We are committed to the highest standards of ethics and transparency in our stewardship of funds for our programs and operations. For years, we have provided educational services to acequias to improve their governance and infrastructure, which have been funded in part with a contract from the State of New Mexico.
We are proud of our track record of service in assisting hundreds of acequias statewide to sustain their historic irrigation practices. Recent accusations against our Executive Director in an online blog post in Las Vegas, New Mexico about misuse of funding are simply not true. Furthermore, the NMAA is in full compliance with annual audit requirements and remains in good standing with the state agency with which we have a contract. The NMAA continues to provide valuable educational and outreach services with a committed team of staff and volunteers.
