We’re excited to kick off the 2026 Los Sembradores season
This year, we’re honored to welcome an incredible group of participants representing acequias and counties across Northern and Central New Mexico.
On April 15, 2026, we spent our first day on the farm of Maestro Don Bustos. He generously shared his deep traditional agricultural knowledge and led us on a tour around his farm. His fields are full of hard work and so much life. He has blackberries and strawberries, asparagus, several varieties of greens, flowers, fruit trees, and even honey bees. He has also built a large array of pollinator plants scattered throughout his acreage to ensure his bees have plenty to eat.
Sembradores learned from him how to plant asparagus crowns and then worked together to plant 75 crowns among trees, perennials, and flowers. They were happy to learn by working together and having hands-on experiences.
Word of the Day: Repartimiento, “The customary agreements worked out over generations within a stream system so that water is shared among upstream and downstream acequias according to principles of need and equity as well as a customary proportional or rotational procedure for dividing the water.”
Dicho of the Day: “Con muchas manos el trabajo es menos.”
Remedio of the Day: Mullein is really good for lung support and the flowers can be used for ear aches.
We’re looking forward to a meaningful and productive season together.
Wishing for a fruitful season filled with gentle rain, many beautiful days, and plenty of joy… for our participants and for all of you.
