Passing on tradition and adapting to modern circumstances, Commissioners and Mayordomos of New Mexico's acequias will gather on June 23rd at the Santa Fe Community College (Jemez Room) for a daylong event hosted by the New Mexico Acequia Association and co-sponsored by the Ben Lujan Leadership and Public Policy Institute. The conference will feature sessions on water sharing, conflict management, legal issues and a variety of other topics to support new and seasoned acequieros to manage the multifaceted functions of being a sub-division of state government.

Acequia infrastructure and communal water management have delivered irrigation water to grow New Mexico's food for four centuries. Water scarcity, shifting demographics and the changing role of small agriculture in our society all bring challenges and opportunities for this cornerstone of New Mexico culture and quality of life.

Please join us for these informative sessions and dialogue. Your participation will help to support New Mexico's acequias in being effective, collaborative and resilient in these changing times. This event is generously co-sponsored by the Ben Lujan Leadership and Public Policy Institute at New Mexico Highlands University.
