Dear Acequia Leaders:

With Spring's arrival, we look forward to water flowing in our acequias for yet another growing season. The Spring also brings the time of acequia meetings and the ever-important work of "sacando la acequia."

With this in mind, the New Mexico Acequia Association would like to invite you to be involved in our educational activities and to support our work. NMAA provides a variety of educational opportunities for acequias.

First, NMAA offers direct technical assistance to share information on a range of topics related to acequia governance including water rights, bylaws, infrastructure planning and funding, and other issues.  Also, we make every effort to attend acequia meetings when we are invited to present. If your acequia plans to make infrastructure improvements, we highly recommend completing an Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan.

Second, NMAA hosts several educational workshops.  During the coming months, NMAA will be hosting four workshops on Acequia Budgets and Audits, and a Commissioner-Mayordomo Workshop (June 16th at the Santa Fe Community College).  Third, NMAA publishes a quarterly acequia newsletter and monthly online newsletter with educational features of interest to acequias.

Finally, we would like to invite you to join NMAA as a member, if you haven't done so already.  If you have questions about the status of your membership, call our office at 505-995-9644.  To join or renew your membership, simply click here! Become a Member of NMAA We appreciate your support!

Please let us know if NMAA can be of service to you, or if you would like to invite our staff to attend one of your acequia meetings.  Also, consider a membership or donation that enables NMAA to support you in keeping our acequias flowing with clean water so that we can grow healthy food for our families and communities.  For more information, please contact us at the NMAA office at 505-995-9644.

Yours in service,
Paula Garcia
